What happens when someone uses MDMA?
Ecstasy affects the brain by increasing the activity of three key neurotransmitters:

• Dopamine – boosts energy and activity levels, while also activating the brain’s reward system, reinforcing behaviors.

• Norepinephrine – raises heart rate and blood pressure, which can be especially dangerous for people with heart or blood vessel conditions.

• Serotonin – influences mood, appetite, sleep, and many other functions. It also triggers hormones tied to sexual arousal and trust. The surge of serotonin is thought to explain the feelings of emotional closeness, elevated mood, and empathy often reported by people who use Ecstasy.
